THE RACE

The CURSHER is an 8 Hours Adventure Race: paddling, mtn biking, running, hiking, map and compass navigation. The Cumbler is a shorter challenge: 2-3 Hours of biking, paddling, and running on a mostly marked course.

LOCATION

Chassahowitzka, FL (south of Homosassa)

EVENT INFORMATION

Both races start and finishe at the Chassahowitzka Campground Boat Ramp . This is a beautiful area with Cypress Swamps, Dry Praries, and Crystal Clear Natural Spings and spring-fed river.

The Crusher will be a "modified rogaine format" meaning there are both "Mandatory" and "Bonus/Optional" checkpoints. Participants have Eight Hours to "go out into the woods", bike, run, or paddle to all of the "Mandatory" points, but then also collect as many "Bonus" points in the allotted time. Everyone must be back by the 8 Hr Time Limit. Strong map-and-compass skills are needed for The Crusher.

The Crumbler is a bit more structured; there will be a designated course that all "Crumblers" must follow as they run, bike, and paddle along a mostly marked course. Be prepared for "Special Challenges" along the way, as well as a small bit of easy map-and-compass navigation.

NAVIGATION

The Crumbler is a mostly MARKED course. The Crusher is NOT marked -- Strong Navigation Skills Required. No GPS allowed. One Navigation Clinic will be offered before the race:

  • Saturday, Aug 21, 8 am - Noon. Combination Intro to Navigation + More Advanced Techniquest (helpful especially for the Crusher, such as "triangulation" hint. Cost: $25 for registered racers, $40 for non-racers.

Contact kip@wecefar.com for information or check active.com.

TRANSITION AREA

There will be one transition area at the Chassahowitzka Campground Boat Ramp where personal gear may be left. You will visit this TA at least once during the race, but be prepared to carry fluid and caloric needs to last 5-6 hr (Crusher) or 1-2 hr (Crumbler).
